Standard 2
Educators act ethically and maintain the integrity, credibility and reputation of the profession.
It is the duty of all educators to act ethically and maintain all things that include integrity and credibility to the profession of teaching. Prior to starting the education program, I was a Youth Care Worker for the Prince George Native Friendship Centre. In my line of work, I completed a lot of tasks that involved not only primary care for at risk youth, but I also had to embody certain professional aspects that my youth in care had to strive for. A lot of my values had to be present and explicitly shown to the youth on a daily basis, which included, honesty, respect, and responsibility to one self. I think within this standard, in juxtaposition to my line of work as a youth care worker, you have to set specific boundaries and outline clear expectations when building relationships with students/youth. Adding students on social media is a boundary that I have had to set in order to maintain that reputation of the profession, yet still have students understand the boundary inside and outside the classroom.
I am completely aware that I am not only a role model for students inside the classroom, but also outside when students are working on extra-curricular in public settings. I often see the youth that I work with in other areas, such as coaching and community work, so it is my obligation to become the best version of myself every possible day.
