Educators contribute to the profession.

This standard is a huge one in my opinion. Contributing to the profession is something that stands at the front of all practices and methods in teaching when the needs of students are in high demand. Providing other services, opportunities, clubs, teams, etc., outside of the classroom is something that is sacred when reaching out to those students who need it most. I have worked with a lot of at-risk youth, and standard 8 provides the outlet for those students who need a sense of community and belonging outside of the classroom, as well as inside. I have been a coach for 10 years, and I have had many students who are at risk or experience poverty come and play basketball for me on the school team, which has turned into many rewarding experiences on and off the court. Extra-curricular activities like coaching and organizing community events is an important standard that every teacher should continually strive to meet.
