Educators value the success of all students. Educators care for students and act in their best interests.

This standard, I believe, is at the forefront of all teaching and education. Its the moments of seeing those struggling students succeed that push me to become the best educator I can for my students. Learning requires patience and time, but when seeing their progression as a learner in action, I am ecstatic as a practitioner to go above and beyond. For example, in practicum 490, I had several students that needed one on one attention in order to succeed, but I also had several students who needed to be challenged. As educators, we are passed the many difficult responsibilities it takes to get students to succeed. With this in mind, I had to adapt to both of my students needs, but I also intuitively valued the success of all my students in my classroom, regardless of where they were at. My solution was to include all of my students, those who struggled and those who succeeded, whether or not students were ready for it. I decided to ask myself, “if I were in their situation, how would I want to learn?” As I began to ponder this in the midst of my planning, I began to take my education game to a whole new level – the standard became not an expectation of me, but a goal for me to accomplish in the short time I had with these students. Everyday became about how I can make these students successful, first defining what that meant, then going into thinking about how I can be adaptable in my lessons. For some students, that looked like asking them more difficult questions beyond their complex capabilities, and for others required me to sit down with them one on one to just get them started. I started to view all of these things as little victories from battle, nonetheless of how small it appeared on the surface. For some students, this standard cannot be expressed enough with how important it is to them that they get this value from their teachers; others need this standard to hone their skills and contribute on a larger scale to society and the globe.
