Within each of Bc’s 9 teaching standards, here are the goals I hope to accomplish in my last practicum:
My goal for this standard is to not only value the success of all my students, but also the progression of their work over the course of the practicum. Seeing students develop concrete writing skills and grow their understanding of literature is a focus I want to implement.
My goal is to comply with the ability to act ethically and maintain the integrity of the profession and all the tasks that come with the profession. I have a motivation in mind to not only act ethically, but to utilize mental health issues that come from the profession and find a critical friend to maintain those boundaries. Not bringing issues into my home life is a goal that I want to achieve.
My hope is to include an essay unit in this practicum and apply this knowledge that I have gained from my undergrad degree, and training from an English professor, to the best of my ability. My goal is to foster student growth in writing and to do so through a lens of literature.
My hope throughout this practicum is to maintain a healthy, open to feedback relationship with the parents and families of my students. My goal is to listen to each parent at the parent-teacher conference, gaining an insight on what I think I could do better in the class to better my students learning.
My goal for this standard is to improve in areas of research, creativity, and originality in education. While I have a strong base in my toolkit of effective planning and assessment, I do, however, wish to dedicate myself in this practicum to grow and develop in these areas with a strong focus on understanding that the content is not the most important, but the way I can effectively bring in concepts that are relevant.
My goal for this practicum is to study the content extensively and bring in a variety of different resources to demonstrate the knowledge necessary for literary studies. Not only do I want to connect this knowledge to relevant concepts today through novel study, but I also want to try and stretch the students’ thinking into deeper notions like authors presenting themselves in the novel.
My goal is to engage in professional learning throughout the practicum and apply that to the classrooms I will be working in. Trying to learn something in professional learning and apply it to what I am teaching is key.
My goal is to coach basketball during this practicum and contribute to the profession by developing/fostering an educational basketball coaching community at the school and within the north.
My goal is to effectively implement a self-aware approach to including not only standard 9, but also my values in my practice as an educator. I think that making an honest effort to be myself while maintaining a professional boundary is something that I have a strong sense of commitment to, which means that I would like to have conversations with my students without making the histories so black and white, but a complex topic to tackle and learn from.
